Driving towards the Homer Tunnel, leaving Milford Sound - Piopiotahi.

1.2km long, the opened in 1954 after 19 years of construction.

The tunnel passes through the Darran mountain range, below the Homer Saddle and into the Cleddau Valley, 945 meters above sea level. Both the saddle and tunnel are named after William Henry Homer. It is the only road in and out of Milford Sound.
